ESNSurvey 2010 Report released!

We are glad to inform that the report of the ESNSurvey 2010 is now available online! As the previous edition, you can read it online and/or download it from esn.org.

About ESNSurvey2010

"Why to study abroad?" This edition explores what are the benefits of having done an academic exchange. Additionally, we investigated about the economical situation of exchange students while studying abroad as well as their opinion about quality of studies at home and host university.

Some key results

Funding the stay abroad

  • Around 10 % of responding students lack funding to finance even basic necessities during their period abroad.
  • 35 % of the respondents would not have gone abroad without financial support and 30 % are not certain.

Financial situation

  • > 90 % receive a grant.
  • The grant amount affects 25 % of students in choosing a place to study. 

Expectations and personal development.

  • Expectations of “improving academic knowledge” mostly fulfilled (75%).
  • Many report improved soft skills such as intercultural awareness (93%) or adaptability (91%).

Assessing institutions.

  • Most important are the teaching quality and the employability of graduate students. 

Satisfaction with ESN.

  • Average satisfaction 4.0 (scale from 1 to 5)
  • Most appreciated are social gatherings, trips, visiting tours and welcome days.
